Ufa (Russia): Upcoming Indian wrestler Ravinder Prepared himself for his second international title by reaching the 61kg final of the Junior World Championships, while Gaurav Baliyan (79kg) and Lamp (97kg) won the bronze medal here on Tuesday.
Ravinder had won the Asian Cadet title in 2018 and also won a silver at the 2019 Under-23 World Championships.
The 20-year-old Baliyan won the bronze play-off by technical superiority in just 65 seconds after winning his bout against Germany’s Richard Schroeder.
He started with a four-point throw and before the Germans could collect themselves, Baliyan came on with successive take-down moves to end the bout in a jiffy.
Deepak defeated Milan Andras Korsog of Hungary 3-2 to win the 97kg bronze medal.
Ravinder controlled the semi-final against Levik Mikaelian of Armenia after going 0-2 down, losing both points on push-outs.
His tactical prowess was on display as he continued to impress one point-scoring move after another, especially with double-leg attacks.
Three consecutive take-downs pushed him into the lead and he cemented it with another.
He ended the bout on technical superiority with a four-pointer, with which he caught the right foot of his opponent and threw the Armenian off the mat.
Earlier, in an action-packed pre-quarterfinal against Ivan Haramika of Belarus, Ravinder’s agility won 5-2. Ivan had a good attacking style but the Indian’s better stamina helped him a lot.
In the quarter-final against Brunei’s Alibeg Alibegov, Ravinder’s better defense was on display.
Alibeg grabbed Ravinder’s right leg and then launched a dangerous looking double leg attack too, but on both occasions, the Indian used his power and mind.
Among other Indians in action, Yash (74kg) lost in the pre-quarterfinals, while Vetal Shelkle (86 kg), Prithviraj Patil (92kg) and Anirudh (125kg) lost in their respective quarterfinals.
Shubham (57kg) and Rohit (65kg) crashed out of the medal race, losing their repechage rounds.
