Jess Jonassen and Marijane Kapp shared a 45-run match-winning partnership to hand Delhi Capitals a thrilling win.

Delhi Capitals continued their fine form in the ongoing Women’s Premier League 2023 as they registered a thrilling six-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Monday.

Shikha Pandey picked up figures of 3/23 to help DC restrict RCB to 150/4, despite a brilliant half-century from Ellyse Perry and a blistering knock from Richa Ghosh.

DC then chased down the target in 19.4 overs.

“I knew RCB would come down heavily on us and I wanted to grab this opportunity. I was proud of the catch I took to dismiss Heather Knight,” Pandey said.

“Halfway through, I was pretty confident that we would win with two overs to spare. In the end it got really tense as RCB bowled really well. There were some nerves in the dressing room but we also had faith in our batsmen.”

DC were in trouble after losing their fourth wicket for 109 runs in the 15th over, but Marijan Kapp and Jess Jonassen shared a brilliant 45-run partnership to take their team home.

Talking about the unbeaten partnership, Pandey said, “This match was a good learning period for us. The team needs to know that it has the ability to win close games. Jess Jonassen and Marizanne Kapp have guts of steel. He stayed calm and got us over the line.”
