The sole purpose of this day is to provide necessary skills to the youth across the world so that they can get employment. The day helps in spreading awareness about the importance of skills in getting good job opportunities.

World Youth Skills Day 2022 is being observed at a time when all countries are still working on socio-economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, it can serve as a platform for the economic benefits that the nation can gain by training the youth.

World Youth Skills Day: History

The United Nations General Assembly declared 15 July as World Youth Skills Day in December 2014. Its aim was to improve the socio-economic conditions for today’s youth and to address the challenge of unemployment. Since the inception of World Youth Skills Day, it has facilitated interaction between young people, technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions, businesses, governments and development partners.

The day is significant as it provides employment, higher income levels and better opportunities for lifelong learning to the new generation. World Youth Skills Day encourages the eradication of gender inequality and ensuring that disadvantaged people have access to resources.
