World Youth Skills Day 2022: Government Skill Training Schemes and Initiatives

World Youth Skills Day 2022: Youth are the backbone of any nation and play a vital role in shaping the better future of the country. Therefore, it becomes important to equip the youth with valuable skills. Highlighting the need, the United Nations celebrates World Youth Day on 15 July every year.

In India, the central government has taken several measures and ensured that youth acquire the necessary skills through development programmes, apprenticeship programmes, etc.

Various schemes and initiatives have been launched by the government to encourage the youth to adopt the skills and become eligible for further career opportunities. Some of the schemes are listed below.

  1. Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)
    This scheme was launched in 2015 to promote skill development among the youth of the country. It provides a short duration skill training to youth who are also given placement assistance at the end of their certification programme. Main objectives of the plan To make the youth employable through skill training, increase the productivity of the existing workforce and tailor the skill training to the needs of the country.
  2. Advanced Vocational Training Scheme (AVTS)
    below AVTS SchemeTraining in selected areas is provided through short-term modular courses ranging from one to six weeks in duration. These are tailor-made courses which are designed to meet the industrial needs of the country.   3. Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS)
    This plan provides training course To youth through a network of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). Its objective is to ensure the availability of skilled workers in various occupations for the domestic industry and to reduce employment among the younger generation.
  4. Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras (PMKK)
    This scheme was started under the Government of India Skill India Mission, It is geared towards setting up state-of-the-art and aspirational model training centers in every district of the country. The centers named Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra provide industry driven courses to the people with a focus on employability.
  5. Skill Power for Industrial Value Addition (Strive)
    Strive Sarkari Yojana was launched with the assistance of the World Bank. It aims to improve institutions and improve quality and market relevance skill development training program in long-term vocational training. It has been launched to strengthen the institutions and enable them to impart quality skill development training.
