Mani Ratnam’s much awaited film Ponniyin Selvan 1 is all set to hit the theaters this 30th September. On Friday, the makers released the first teaser of the epic and it garnered over 55 lakh views within a day. The teaser launch was held in Thanjavur where Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan and director Mani Ratnam were present.
Speaking on the occasion, actor Karthi said, “If we talk about history class we will fall asleep. I would fall asleep without realizing it. Let’s look at it for a while. We will get to know a lot about history. Although I know we call ourselves Tamils, we don’t know much about Tamils.
“But in this film, we know what our ancestors did. History cannot be made without reading history. Mani Ratnam is passing this film on to the next generation. The experience of working in this film is not always available, ”said the actor.
Further one of the writers, Jayamohan, said, “There is no chance of knowing the Cholas in India outside Tamil Nadu. Mani Ratnam’s team will fix the error. We should become the voice of Chola pride for the world. We have written this story in the form of a film.
“Our children know American history and European history. But they are unaware of our history. The history, culture and place of life of Tamils will be known to all after the release of this film.”
The upcoming Tamil language period action drama is directed and co-produced by Mani Ratnam under his production studio Madras Talkies, along with Alliraja Subhaskaran under the banner of Lyca Productions. The film is based on the first of two cinematic parts of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1995 novel Ponniyin Selvan. The film was directed by Mani Ratnam, Elango Kumarvel and B. Jayamohan has written.
Ponniyin Selvan is considered one of the most expensive projects ever made in Indian cinema. The star cast includes Karthi, Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Vikram Prabhu, Lal, Jairam, Parthiban and Prakash Raj.
The film will hit the theaters in five languages - Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. The audience is very excited about the film.
