According to the latest report from Sensor Tower, in the first half of 2020, social media apps are the top three of the top 10 most downloaded apps in the world. Not only this, five out of the ten most downloaded apps are social media apps.

TIC Toc
ByteDance-owned app TikTok is the most downloaded app worldwide. It was banned in India for a year, but it is still a popular app globally. When split between Android and iOS users, it is the most downloaded app among iOS users, it is the second most downloaded app among Android users.
Facebook
Social networking giant Facebook’s primary app is the second most downloaded app overall. It is the most popular app among Android users so far in 2021 and the sixth most popular app among iPhone users.
instagram
Facebook-owned photo sharing app Instagram is the third most downloaded app by smartphone users in 2021. It is the third of the two Apple Store and on Google Play Store.
Messenger
Facebook’s dedicated messaging app – Messenger also finds itself in the list of most popular apps of 2021. It is ranked 7th in the Apple App Store listing and 6th in the Google Play Store listing.
Snapchat
Ephemeral messaging app Snapchat is also on the list. It is the eighth most popular app overall. The app is at number 7 on the Google Play Store. It is not in the top 10 apps in the Apple App Store listing.
