World River Day is observed every year on the fourth Sunday of September to raise awareness about water bodies and promote their conservation. This year, it is falling on 26 September. History and Significance

Mark Angelou, a renowned river environmentalist, addressed the United Nations in 2005 during his Water for Life campaign, a decades-long effort to raise awareness of the weak water supply around the world. Angelou called for the annual World River Day to help benefit the cause.
