Cricket World Cup Qualifier: Sean Williams’ Zimbabwe on Monday produced a stellar performance in their ongoing World Cup qualifier match against the United States. Riding on captain Williams’ 101-ball 174, Chevron posted 408/6 in 50 overs in their final league stage game of the qualifiers. Zimbabwe has broken Pakistan’s all-time record in ODIs.

Zimbabwe dominated the current qualifiers and beat USA in their fourth group stage game at the Harare Sports Club, Harare. Due to big scores from some of the batsmen, Zimbabwe posted their highest and first 400-plus score in 50-over cricket. Chevron has surpassed Pakistan in terms of highest team score in ODI cricket. Pakistan’s highest score in this format is 399/1, which they incidentally made against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo in July 2018.

Zimbabwe better their record for the highest score in the qualifiers

Notably, Chevron’s performance with the bat also helped him better his mammoth record of registering the highest score in an ODI World Cup qualifier. He had earlier scored 380 against Nepal in 2018 and is now the first 400+ score in a qualifier event.

Also, Zimbabwe became the seventh country in history to register a score of over 400. They join an elite list of India, Australia, South Africa, England, Sri Lanka and New Zealand. Notably, the highest score in an ODI game is 498, registered by England against the Netherlands in June 2022.

Zimbabwe have been the most dominant team in the ongoing World Cup qualifiers. They have all three games in Group A and have qualified for the Super Six stage. Zimbabwe previously defeated the West Indies, the Netherlands and Nepal to retain the tournament. Notably, wins over the rest of the group’s qualifiers – the West Indies and the Netherlands – would also give them four points at the Super Six stage.
