World Cup Qualifiers: Led by strong innings from Vikramjit Singh and Wesley Bareisse and some disciplined bowling, Netherlands defeated Oman in the 5th match of Super Six in ODI World Cup Qualifier 2023. The Dutch dominated in all departments, first posting a massive score of 362 and then falling short. The opponents scored 246 runs in a rain-affected match. With this resounding win, Scott Edwards’ men have kept alive their hopes of playing the World Cup in India.

Openers Vikramjit Singh and Max O’Dowd got off to a great start as the first score reached 117, but the latter was lost to Ayan Khan. However, Singh scored a century, while Baresi fell short by just three runs in a blistering 97 off 65 balls. The innings was reduced to 48 overs due to rain.

Later in the second innings, Oman kept chasing the game and fell behind. The wickets of openers Kashyap Prajapati and Jatinder Singh and skipper Aaqib Ilyas made the task difficult. But the Dutch could not stop Ayan Khan from scoring his maiden ODI century, scoring 105 off 92 balls. But due to lack of much support and a large increase in the required rate, Oman lagged far behind. Finally the lights dimmed and the players shook hands 4 overs before the scheduled end.

With this win, the Netherlands have 4 points in the Super Sixes stage. They still have one game left and will take on Scotland in their last game on July 6. Meanwhile, they also depend on the result of Zimbabwe v Scotland on 3 July.

After the game, the Dutch captain also said that they were looking for a win to stay in the tournament and now they have got it. “It was the plan to get the win. Yep, job done. There was a little bit in the middle where we struggled but the way Vikram, Wesley and Bass finished it was amazing. Watching Vikram bat was amazing.” the way he did. Oman played very well in the middle but we pulled things back. We were very good as a unit, Ryan and Aryan were excellent with the ball. Some results will have to go according to us, we will keep an eye on them but we can. We have nothing else to do except prepare for our next game.
