The Women in Blue have won the toss and opted to field at Buffalo Park in East London. The Caribbean side had included four Under-19 players for today’s game. Zida James, Jenaba Joseph, Trishan Holder and Genelia Glasgow replace Stephanie Taylor, Chinelle Henry, Shakera Selman and Chadian Nation. In the previous match against South Africa, Jemimah Rodrigues scored for India with a four off Nonkululeko Mlaba, while Smriti Mandhana was yet to open her account by giving Shabnim Ismail a maiden over. Shabnam made a comeback after missing the first three matches of the series.
Rain also affected the return of India’s seam-bowling all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar from September as Harmanpreet Kaur named her after the skipper opted to bat.
On the other hand, West Indies are yet to win in the ongoing series. They have lost twice to South Africa and once to India before this tournament. They will be looking for a consolation win to enter the T20 World Cup 2023 with some confidence.
