Women’s Premier League auction to be held on February 13 on Jio World Center in Mumbai. News18 Cricket Next It is reliably learned that the WPL franchises participating in the ongoing ILT20 in Dubai and SA20 in South Africa were not available on the earlier proposed dates – first week of February. The IL20 final will be held on February 12 and the SA20 will conclude with the title match in Johannesburg on February 11.

Four of the five WPL teams have a presence in the ILT20 and two of them are also participating in the SA20. The participating teams in both the leagues conveyed their concerns to the board.

A senior board official told News18 CricketNext, “Yes, the auction will take place on February 13. The teams will be informed soon.”

Teams participating in the SA20 and ILT20 had availability issues in the first week of February due to ongoing commitments. Also, the teams have not got enough time to start their auction plans as the owners were finalized only a week ago on January 25.

“Definitely it was the need of the hour as well. The teams were decided only a week in advance, so it is always good to have some time to prepare an auction strategy and data base. We are not sure about the date yet, but yes it is unlikely that everything will go up for auction in the first week of February. News18 Cricket Next,

Five teams are already working in powerplay mode to put together support staffs for the inaugural edition, which is likely to start in less than a month. As of now, as reported by CricketNext earlier, only Mithali Raj’s appointment has been confirmed and she is set to join Adani Group-owned franchise Gujarat Giants.

IPL GC see you soon

The IPL Governing Council is likely to meet this week and take a look at the issues that demand immediate attention. The GC has not met since the team owners were decided last week and is likely to meet this week ahead of the auction.

“I can say that we will meet soon to discuss everything – the auction and other things. We met last when the teams were finalised. So a game (India-New Zealand T20I) this evening ) and once it is done, we will sit and discuss the matters which need immediate attention,” says IPL GC member Pragyan Ojha.
