Women’s ODI World Cup: Harmanpreet Kaur reveals how traveling psychologist with Team India has helped players

India’s vice-captain Harmanpreet Kaur has acknowledged the clarity of thought after holding talks with sports psychologist Dr Mugdha Bawre to get a ‘clear idea’ ahead of the Women’s Cricket World Cup.

Harmanpreet’s words come after skipper Mithali Raj, who had underscored the importance of a sports psychologist traveling with the team for big tournaments like the World Cup, ahead of the bilateral series against New Zealand.

Harmanpreet was battling poor form ahead of the World Cup, scoring 10, 10 and 13 runs in the first three ODIs against New Zealand in Queenstown. He was ruled out of the fourth ODI before showing signs of showing his best performance of 104 off 114 balls in the final ODI against South Africa in the warm-up match.

“This time, we have Mugdha (Bawre) mam traveling with us who has helped us a lot, especially in the last four matches that we played against New Zealand. We didn’t even play; My performance was not good and I also went into a shell. The World Cup was coming up and it is very important, as we all know. After that he talked to me. In the virtual press conference, Harmanpreet said, “Every conversation I had with her, I was really looking for something like this.”

“After talking with him, the solutions I found were happening inside my mind, but the awareness was not coming because there is a lot of pressure around us performing and things happening around. The clear ideas I got from him now have really helped me in the last two-three games.

Harmanpreet said, “Having her to join us has really helped us and I am sure it will help other people in the team as well as she is constantly talking to the other players in the team before the match, which is very important and That would really help us.” ,

Harmanpreet termed her poor phase in one-day cricket as ‘painful’, despite trying her best to break the thin run.

He said, ‘It hurts when I can’t score runs. As a cricketer, you are always looking to score runs. There is nothing more painful than getting on the field and trying to give your 200 percent and unfortunately, you are not able to perform at the level you are expecting of yourself, those guys Forget those who put hope in me. I think not scoring more runs than other things is more painful.”

Amidst the tough times, Harmanpreet credits Dr. Mugdha and her family for keeping her spirits high.

“It is not about feeling a big (big) player or small (small) player. It is the same for every player. Mugdha played a huge role when I was not scoring runs. She came up to me, talked to me about what was happening and how I could find a way out. After that my family was supporting me, they were talking to me continuously. Those things helped me a lot.”

The 32-year-old signed Harmanpreet hoping to continue her good run from the last two matches in the World Cup. “When things are not in your favor, a lot of people start talking. But the good thing is that people close to me trusted me. I am really grateful to them. When the going gets tough, positive thinking and having good self-confidence play an important role. He played a huge role in my life as he held my hand and now, I am getting back in my rhythm, I just hope to keep it going.”
