Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the 30th Foundation Day program of the National Commission for Women through video conferencing in a short time. The theme of the event is Women, Who Bring Change (She the Change Maker), which aims to celebrate the achievements of women in various fields.

Generally, women are not able to raise their voice against the crime against themselves, even if they raise their voice with courage, then this courage dies due to the shortcomings of the government machinery. The helpline numbers 011- 26944880, 011- 26940148 issued by the National Commission for Women (NCW) do not pick up and if it does, the voice does not reach there. Even if the contact is made even after calling continuously, then after 10 minutes the phone is hung saying that the call is made. That is, the helpline numbers created to prevent women crime, harassment and exploitation are proving to be a breeze.

Will call after 10 minutes…
In the month of December, started calling sequentially on the numbers given on the website of the Women’s Commission, but not a single call was received. After making tens of calls, even if one call was received, without listening from there, it was told that after 10 minutes, I will call. Called again after 10 minutes, but not received. After that, one y one call on all the numbers given on the website, thinking that maybe someone would be talked about, but no one could be talked to.

Difficult to file complaint
About a week later, on Monday afternoon, again dialed the given landline numbers 011- 26944880, 011- 26940148 to file a complaint with the National Commission for Women, but the call could not be picked up even here. In such a situation, the question arises that when it is so difficult for a journalist to talk to the Women’s Commission, then how would a victim woman get help from the Women’s Commission? Does the Women’s Commission really help for women or is the ritual performed in favor of women only by issuing notices?

‘Commission is limited to issue of notices and asking for ATR’
In answer to these questions, people have different opinions on the social site Quora. A user says, ‘No, they (commission) only register complaints of victims and send mails to police asking for ATR. Police can give them any ATR and the complaint will be closed. That is his only role. Apart from this, her work includes commenting on the safety of women from time to time.

Another user wrote, ‘My answer is no. Had NCW been working seriously, crime against women would have come down by now.

Active help of women in UP
According to the Women’s Commission data, Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of cases at 15,828, Delhi 3,336, Maharashtra 1,504, Haryana 1,460 and Bihar 1,456.
Calling on the toll free number given on the site of the Uttar Pradesh Women’s Commission did not work. The call on the second number given for lodging the complaint was received in the very first time itself. The commission member who spoke on the call said, ‘Madam, troll free chalu. There might be a server issue right now. I get checked. Every day 80 to 90 calls are received. We take most complaints in written format over fax and WhatsApp.

Website not working in MP and helpline in Maharashtra
The website of Commission for Women in Madhya Pradesh is not working. At the same time, if a call is made to the helpline of Maharashtra Women’s Commission, then it is picked up but the voice does not reach. In Bihar, there is only one helpline number 0612-2226368 on the website of Women’s Commission. The same number appears when you click on the Help Desk column, This page is currently under construction. Instead of Delhi Women’s Commission, a link to the Delhi Government site has been given on the NCW website.

Surprisingly, no one got backcalls or follow up calls from National Commission for Women, Maharashtra, Bihar and capital Delhi. Backcall made only by Himachal Pradesh Women’s Commission.

These states do not have the website of the commission
Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar, Chandigarh, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Daman-Diu and Lakshadweep do not have a Women’s Commission website.
