Women’s Ashes schedule changed to accommodate ODI World Cup quarantine

The Women’s Ashes series will begin a week earlier than originally scheduled, after the multi-format series’ schedule on Thursday was rescheduled and brought forward due to quarantine requirements for the upcoming ODI World Cup in New Zealand, which Starting from 3rd March. ,

Kicking off the multi-format series between England and Australia will now begin with the first T20I at the Adelaide Oval on January 20. The Test match remains in place – to be played from January 27 to 30 at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. This is followed by ODIs to be played on 3, 6 and 8 February.

Cricket Australia CEO, Nick Hockley said, “We are looking forward to a great series between the two best teams in the world, with each side being the T20 and ODI world champions respectively.”

Cricket Australia also had to take ‘logistic considerations’ into consideration while making the schedule, which resulted in the T20I being moved out of Sydney. All three T20 Internationals are scheduled in Adelaide, before the teams travel to Canberra for the Test and the first ODI before heading to Melbourne to conclude the series.

“Sadly, logistical considerations meant we had to move two T20 matches from the North Sydney Oval, which has long been the home of the women’s game in Sydney, and it is also disappointing that the annual Governor-General Played at Drummoyne Oval this season is due to have an XI.

We thank the cricket fans in Sydney for their understanding and there is no doubt that the three T20Is at the Adelaide Oval will set the tone for a great series,” said Hockley.

The changes were necessary to allow both countries to enter hotel quarantine in New Zealand ahead of the 50-over World Cup. Recent changes to New Zealand’s border roadmap at the end of December mean both teams will have to undergo 10 days of hotel quarantine; Under the country’s original plans announced in November, they would only need to complete seven days of home isolation to travel from Australia.

While the tournament does not begin until 4 March, both teams are set to play two practice games a week leading up to the event, and given isolation requirements, to be in New Zealand by mid-February. Necessary.

Australia’s squad is to be announced next week, while England named a 17-player main team and 12-strong ‘A’ group in December.
