No such thing as success. And when it comes after a while it makes it even better. Buoyed after its victory in Karnataka, the Congress has now decided to replicate the southern state’s winning formula in the upcoming state elections – especially in Madhya Pradesh where the party feels it can score a big win.

In a meeting organized by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, the party worked out a strategy for the state with focus on women, youth and Priyanka Vadra. Another round of meeting will be held on 26th of this month to give shape to the plan.

The focus on Priyanka Vadra seems well planned. In both Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka, he held more than 15 rallies and roadshows. Since the Mahila card is working for most parties, including the BJP, the Congress has decided that direct money into women’s accounts, subsidies or free gas cylinders can be a winning formula.

So it has been planned that Priyanka Vadra will be the main campaigner for these state elections along with Rahul Gandhi. In fact, right after the Raipur session, Priyanka Vadra went back to the state under the same strategy to include him. She will focus on tribal and backward areas as well as constituencies which are considered to be the weak spots of the Congress. A list of 20 assembly constituencies has been prepared for his tour.

Apart from this, the focus of the party will be on women. Former chief minister Kamal Nath has already announced special measures for women, which his government will implement if voted to power. This includes depositing Rs 1,500 in the bank accounts of women. According to the data, in 11 districts falling under both Chambal and Bundelkhand regions, the number of women voters is more than men. Interestingly, last year in the panchayat elections, women came out in droves to vote, especially in areas like Shivpuri, Bhind, Morena and Shahdol which are known for their patriarchal mindset.

Finally, given the large number of first-time voters, on priority basis, the Congress will focus on employment and announce a number of measures to ensure job creation.

With this, the party hopes to win and set the tone for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
