The counsel for the petitioner submitted that in most of the cases his bail has been granted. The police have implicated the petitioner by showing fake recovery.

The Allahabad High Court made important remarks while hearing the bail plea of a chain snatcher on Monday. The court said, “Incidents like chain snatching have instilled so much fear in women that they are afraid to come out of the house wearing jewellery, which is a matter of great concern.”

Due to such incidents again and again, fear prevails among women. It needs to be taken seriously and incidents like chain snatching should be stopped so that women can feel safe. Justice Sanjay Kumar Singh of Allahabad High Court made this observation while rejecting the bail application of Amit Kumar, accused of chain snatching in Kanpur.

10 months ago, a woman from Kanpur had lodged an FIR.
Pushpa Devi, a resident of Panki police station area of Kanpur district, had lodged an FIR at Panki police station that on October 4, 2020, she had gone to the market with her daughter and daughter-in-law. Sitting on an auto rickshaw, when all three of them were going towards the market, two unidentified miscreants who came on a bike pulled the gold chain from their daughter-in-law’s neck. On 21 October 2020, Panki police arrested two miscreants named Amit and Kundan in connection with chain snatching.

Two gold chains, pistol and cartridges were recovered from both of them. Apart from this, stolen bikes and cash money were also found. The accused Amit Kumar had filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court for bail.

17 cases registered against chain snatcher, bail plea was filed
The petitioner has a criminal record of 17 cases of robbery and challenge. The counsel for the petitioner submitted that in most of the cases his bail has been granted. The police have implicated the petitioner by showing fake recovery. The public prosecutor opposed this and presented his criminal record. On this, the court said that the rights of the accused are in their place, but such criminals cannot be released on bail. It is clear that he has committed offenses repeatedly by misusing the bail. This reinforces the fact that after getting bail, he will again indulge in the same criminal activity.
