Rajkot: The brutal murder of a 30-year-old ended strained relations between two divorced men. Women The boy’s body along with his 12-year-old son was recovered from a sewer in Bhavnagar on Thursday night.
The police first found the body of Shivam Joshi from the sewer on Sidsar-Vartez road and on further investigation they reached the flat in which his mother Ankita had died.
Ankita’s boyfriend Hemal Shah allegedly committed the crime at Jan Kalyan Apartment on Waghwadi Road, where he lived. Shah and Ankita, who are both divorced, were in a relationship for the past one year and had come to live permanently with their son on Thursday. Shah has an air condition repair shop.
Upon finding Shivam’s body, the police thoroughly scanned the CCTV cameras and searched a few cars which looked suspicious from his movements. Along with this, he also got information about any untoward incident from Jan Kalyan Apartment.
When the police reached the apartment, they found Ankita dead lying in a pool of blood. They picked up Shah for questioning and he confessed to committing the crime.
Shah slit the throat of the woman and her son. When Ankita started living at his house, there was a fight between them about something. However, we are still interrogating the accused to ascertain the reason behind such heinous crime,” said Safi Hassan, assistant superintendent of police, Bhavnagar.
After killing Ankita and Shivam, Shah dumped the latter’s body in his car and into the drainage line, about seven km from his apartment, as it was an isolated place with minimal human movement. Police also recovered an ax and a knife from the spot and sent the weapons for forensic examination.
Police department sources said Shah was earlier booked for offenses of prohibition, theft as well as cruelty to animals as he had brutally thrashed a stray dog in the past.
