Woman Pays 10 To ‘fix Glitches In Phone Services’, Cheated Of 3.3l | Noida News – Times of India

Noida: A 35-year-old woman was allegedly cheated of Rs 3.25 lakh by a fraudster on the pretext of fixing glitches in mobile services.
In her complaint, Veena Bharihoke, a resident of Sector 78, said she had received a message from an unknown number informing her that her mobile phone services were restricted till February 24. She then contacted the person who advised her to pay Rs 10 to get the services resumed. “I followed the instructions and made the payment through a URL the accused had sent,” she said in her complaint.
The accused, however, obtained her card details and fraudulently withdraw Rs 3.25 lakh from her bank account. The victim then informed the bank and also filed a police complaint.
Sharad Kant Sharma, SHO, Sector 113 police station, said a case has been registered against unknown person under relevant sections of the IT Act, “We have initiated an investigation into the matter,” he added.
Last week, Noida police issued an advisory for the prevention of cyber crimes, especially financial frauds. The police said that the people should not share personal information to unknown persons through calls or messages.
“They should also not share bank account details and card verification value numbers. People should also avoid installing unknown mobile applications as this may lead to hacking of their phones,” the advisory stated.
