Withdraw agriculture law, resume talks with farmers: What Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi told PM Narendra Modi?

New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing crisis in Punjab and the uproar in the state Congress, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the capital. PMO India had also tweeted, “Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi calls on PM Narendra Modi.”

This was Channi’s first meeting with Modi after becoming the chief minister. The issue of farmers’ protest was one of the major topics of discussion. Farmers, mainly from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, have been protesting at the borders of Delhi against three agricultural laws since November last year and demanding the repeal of the laws.

“I asked the PM to resolve the issue of farmers’ protest and resume talks with the protesting farmers. I demanded that the three laws should be withdrawn.” Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi Said after meeting PM Modi in Delhi.

“I also requested the PM that the Kartarpur Corridor, which was closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, should be reopened at the earliest,” he said.

Sources said delay in paddy procurement was also on the agenda of the meeting.
