The capacity of the Delhi Metro has come down from 2400 to 200 per 8-coach train as a yellow level alert was sounded in the national capital amid rising omicron cases in the city.

The Delhi government, in its new guidelines, said that only 50% seating capacity will be allowed in metros, and no standing will be allowed. With the new restrictions, each coach can accommodate only 25 passengers. Now only 200 passengers can sit in the eight-coach train.

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) issued a “yellow” alert in the national capital earlier this week, following the rise in the number of coronavirus cases amid the emergence of its Omicron variant.

As per the order, weddings will be allowed only in the presence of 20 people either in the court or at home and no outside venue will be allowed.

“A nodal officer has also been appointed, who will be responsible for ensuring that the guidelines and SOPs issued by DDMA are followed at the centers at all times,” it said.
