With an emotional call from Union Minister Pramanik, Bengal Division Theory again took the lead

It all started with Union Minister John Barla’s demand for a separate union territory from North Bengal. As far as the BJP is concerned, the issue of North Bengal still remains the same. However, when this demand was first raised in June, the BJP’s stand was that this demand is a personal demand and the party does not support it.

As the days are passing, every day some or the other BJP leader keeps saying something or the other on this. Today, Union Minister of State for Home Nisith Pramanik was also asked the same question and his answer was, “See the present Bengal government has supported Gorkhaland partially at one point of time. Demand can come from anyone at any time, I am with public sentiment.

The BJP is openly, slowly and subtly, putting forth this principle of individual state in different ways. Two days ago, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh was in North Bengal and he also created a ruckus on Barla’s demand. MP Locket Chatterjee, however, opposed this saying that Bengal cannot be divided.

Nisith Pramanik holds an important position in the central government, so his comment is very important.

When asked about Nisith Pramanik’s remarks, BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya said, “See, the demand for a separate state cannot be recognized as a separatist activity. There is discontent in North Bengal and that is for misgovernance. We are not for partition but you talk to grassroot level TMC workers, they will also say the same thing.

This is a conscious effort of the leaders by making this issue live.

TMC minister Bratyo Basu said: “They have lost the election and that’s why they are doing it. We have made a lot of development in North Bengal.”
