Winter Got Your Hair Rough And Dry? Here’s How You Can Love Your Locks Back To Life

What can be different about hair care in winter? Well, it turns out there is a lot! We all have those days in winters when our hair doesn’t feel as luxurious as it usually does, despite using the best shampoo for winters. Even after washing the hair regularly, the hair may fall out and look dull and lifeless in a few days. And what do we do when our hair doesn’t cooperate? So here’s the thing – in cold weather, our scalp tends to get drier, so it is essential that we cleanse and moisturize our hair with hydrating shampoos and conditioners.

The festive season begins in winter, which means tons of get-togethers, parties and weddings to attend. As you mingle with your family, friends, and co-workers, it’s obvious that you want your hair to look its absolute best, right? With the harsh weather outside, maintaining your hair can be a herculean task, especially as the low humidity in the environment leads to severe dryness. “There is less moisture in the air for your hair to absorb, which can leave your precious locks feeling limp, brittle and dehydrated. Maintaining and restoring moisture in your hair is the key to getting rid of dry winter hair,” says Nandita Chhabra.

Chhabra is sharing some simple ways you can beat the cold and get back your luscious and shiny locks

1. Hot oil massage is a savior

One of the best ways to get rid of dry winter hair is hot oil massage. Especially for dry and brittle hair, this tried and tested method that has been used since time immemorial will give you the moisture that you need. Coconut oil, olive oil, jojoba oil and almond oil are some of the popular natural oils that you can choose from. You can also use a mixture of these oils on your scalp.

Experts recommend heating the oil to a lukewarm temperature, then applying it to the scalp, roots, and split ends. Leave it on your hair for 30 minutes and then wash it off with a paraben free shampoo.

2. Avoid washing your hair with hot water

You might feel like jumping into a warm, cozy shower as soon as you wake up in the winter. However, hot water can dry out your hair and scalp (which may already be more sensitive in the winter), so don’t turn up the heat too high. Use lukewarm water on your hair.

Experts also recommend avoiding excessive washing of hair, as this dries out your scalp and strips it of moisture. If possible limit the days you wash your hair to twice a week in winters and you are good to go!

3. Invest in the Best

As a first step, avoid hair products that contain a lot of chemicals or alcohol as they will dry out your hair more. Look for shampoos and conditioners that are paraben and sulfate free.

4. Tie your hair

Do not leave your hair open on normal days. You should tie your hair in a ponytail or bun so that it does not come in contact with the wind, coats, mufflers, etc., which can be extremely harmful to your hair. We know it’s a great time to let your hair flow and free, but you definitely don’t want to have to deal with your matted, tangled, and tangled hair afterward!

5. Use the Right Brush

The winter months tend to make hair extra knotty and rough. When you’re home, try brushing your hair quickly to smooth down the hair cuticles. Get shiny hair at home by switching to a natural bristle brush to tame knots without harming the quality or quantity of your strands and keep it calm and manageable. You can also apply hairspray to your brush before brushing. This helps in reducing static.

6. Mask it

One way to show extra love for your hair is by applying a deep conditioning, shiny hair mask. During winters, your hair is thirsty for moisture, so if you want shiny hair, you need to condition properly and include hair masks in your hair care routine. Remember, cover your hair with a shower cap to lock in even more moisture.
