Ajla Tomljanovic became the first Australian woman in more than two decades to reach a back-to-back Wimbledon quarter-final, while the story of Serena Williams-slayer Harmony Tan ended her Wimbledon debut on Monday.
Tomljanovic defeated Elise Cornet 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 from a set-down meeting with Elena Rybakina on the No. 2 court, while Tan suffered a 6-2, 6-3 loss. American Amanda Anisimova, 20, advanced to the fourth round on Monday.

World No. 115 Tan, who defeated 23-time Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams in a late-night epic on the second day, backed that win with two more impressive performances.
But her scintillating play was no match for 20th seed Anisimova, whose powerful baseline game got the job done in 74 minutes. The last remaining American woman in singles, Anisimova, will next face 2019 champion Simona Halep.

“I really didn’t think I could do that,” said Tomljanovic, who lost to eventual champion Ash Barty in last year’s quarterfinals. She cried after a grueling match that lasted 2 hours and 35 minutes.
“I can’t believe I’m in the same position a year later.”
Cornet, 32, ended No. 1 Inga Swietec’s 37-match winning streak in the previous round. The French giant was playing in her 62nd Grand Slam tournament – equaling the WTA record held by Ai Sugiyama – and 65th overall, but only reached her first major quarterfinal at the Australian Open this year. 44th-ranked Tomljanovic will now face Kazakhstan’s 17th seed Elena Rybakina.
