Wimbledon 2021 News Live Updates: Ash Barty, Aryna Sabalenka Headline Day; Sania Mirza-Rohan Bopanna also in action

Barty – who is wearing a specially designed outfit in tribute to the ‘iconic’ scallop a collie wore to her 1971 title success – will play compatriot Ajla Tomljanovic in Tuesday’s quarterfinals.

“I’m excited. It’s another step for me. It’s another first, I guess,” Barty said of reaching the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time.

“It’s going to be a new situation, a new scenario, that I’m going to look forward to.

Tomljanovic is in her first Grand Slam quarter-final at 28 and although she regrets the way she got there – British teenager Emma Radukanu is retiring from her match – she looks forward to Tuesday .

“Two Australian players are playing each other in the quarter,” she said.

“I’m thrilled to play Ashley and look forward to a great match.”

Jabeur, if anything, set out to achieve an even greater goal that her success would inspire young Arab women, especially in North Africa, to take up the sport.

The charming 26-year-old Tunisian – whose biggest inspiration was not a female player but was gifted to Morocco’s Hicham Arazi – plays second seed Aryna Sabalenka, who serves Belarus’ big.

Sabalenka is appearing in her first Grand Slam quarterfinal, while for Jabur it is her second chase from last year’s Australian Open.

Meanwhile, veteran German Angelique Kerber is a threat to both Barty and Jabur’s title hopes. The 2018 Wimbledon champion has clearly rediscovered her love of the sport after witnessing the clinical defeat of American teenager Coco Gauff.

The 33-year-old will play former world number one Karolina Muchova, who defeated Barty to reach the semi-finals of this year’s Australian Open.

“I really enjoy playing on the grass,” said Kerber, the only former Wimbledon champion woman left in a draw.

“I think it’s always really special for me. Like winning my tournament in Germany, playing in front of the crowd again gives me new energy to go out there and enjoy my tennis.

Another former world number one Karolina Pliskova is up against unseeded Swiss Viktorija Golubic in the other quarterfinals. Pliskova says she sticks to her guns and style of play, despite being asked to change.
