Will RRR win best film at Oscars 2023? Hollywood producer Jason Blum bets on SS Rajamouli’s film

Hollywood producer Jason Blum is confident that SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus ‘RRR’ will bag the Best Picture trophy at the Oscars this year. Blum, the founder of Hollywood studio Blumhouse, which helmed Oscar-winning films such as “Get Out” and “BlacKKlansman,” predicted a win for the film in a Twitter post on Monday.

The producer wrote, “I’m going to go with RRR winning Best Picture. You heard it here first. Please mark it. If I’m right, I’m awarding myself my Oscar.” The film’s official Twitter handle posted a reply to Blum, thanking the producer for his “kind words”. “We’ve got you, Blum!! Thank you so much for your kind words.

Starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, “RRR” follows a pre-independence fictional tale woven around two real-life Indian revolutionaries – Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem – in the 1920s. there are stars in it Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgan in lead roles. Released theatrically last March, “RRR” earned over Rs 1,200 crore at the global box office. The Hindi version of the film premiered on Netflix on May 20, 2022, and soon became the most popular film from India on streamers worldwide.

Blum is the latest Hollywood figure to praise “RRR”, joining Jessica Chastain, filmmakers Anthony and Joe Russo, Edgar Wright, Scott Derrickson, Joe Dante, James Gunn, Christopher Miller, screenwriters Jon Spaihts and C Robert Cargill.

The makers of “RRR” are currently gearing up for the Hollywood awards season where its distributor Variance Films has launched a massive campaign to get the film recognized in general categories at various festivals.

The film has been nominated for two Golden Globes – Best Picture – Non-English and Best Song for ‘Naatu Naatu’. It also received five nominations for the Critics’ Choice Awards – Best Picture, Best Director, Best Foreign Language Film, Best Song for “Naatu Naatu”, and Best Visual Effects.

Last week, the film made it to the BAFTA longlist for the Film Not in English Language category. It shared space with “All Quiet on the Western Front”, “Argentina, 1985”, “Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truth”, “Close”, “Courses”, “Decision to Leave”, “Eo”, ” does. Holly Spider”, and “The Quiet Girl”. Ten films will compete to secure a place in the final five for the BAFTA honours.
