Veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan has been dropped from India’s ODI squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Dhawan led India Scored his last ODI hundred in 2019 during ODIs, on multiple occasions this year world cup. In the last 10 ODI innings, the southpaw managed just one half-century which is why the selectors preferred Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill for the Sri Lanka series.

Dhawan also had a poor performance against Bangladesh as he registered low scores – 7,8 and 3 on the tour. On the other hand, Kishan and Gill have impressed many with their consistent performances this year.

The All India Senior Selection Committee on Tuesday announced the squad for the limited overs series against Sri Lanka. Hardik Pandya has been made the captain for the T20 series. While Rohit, who injured his thumb on the tour of Bangladesh, will return to lead the Indian team in ODIs as a senior professional. Virat Kohli And KL Rahul is also part of the 50-over squad.

Fans on Twitter reacted after Dhawan’s absence from the ODI team as some feel it is the end of the road for the experienced opener.
