A single bench of Justice Pratibha M Singh said, the need for Uniform Civil Code under Article 44 has been reiterated by the Supreme Court from time to time. “The need for such a code – ‘common for all’, which enables the application of the same principles with respect to aspects such as marriage, divorce, succession etc., to lay down the principles, safeguards and procedures and the citizen is not made to struggle because of conflicts and contradictions in various personal laws”, the bench said.
