‘Will give free pilgrimage if voted to power’: Kejriwal ahead of Goa Assembly polls 2022

New Delhi: Ahead of the 2022 state assembly elections, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday pledged to provide free pilgrimage to various religious places like Ayodhya, Ajmer Sharif and others in Goa if the Aam Aadmi Party comes to power.

Announcing the free pilgrimage, Kejriwal said, “We will provide Ayodhya pilgrimage if you form the next government in Goa. For Christians, we will give a free Velankanni pilgrimage (in Tamil Nadu) and for Muslims, we will give a free Ajmer Sharif pilgrimage (in Rajasthan). I have been told that many people in Goa prefer to undertake pilgrimage to Shirdi, so they will get free pilgrimage to Shirdi (in Maharashtra).”

Addressing a press conference, the AAP national convener accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of maneuvering to protect the incumbent Chief Minister Pramod Sawant despite allegations of corruption leveled against him by former Governor Satya Pal Malik.

In his report, Kejriwal was quoted as saying, “When we announce election guarantee, people ask me from where will I get the funds. Former governor Satya Pal Malik has given the answer.”

Referring to the former governor’s recent media interview, Kejriwal said, “The governor has said that during his one-year tenure (in Goa) he saw rampant corruption.”

In his address, the Delhi CM said that the BJP’s own appointed governor has leveled corruption charges against the incumbent CM of Goa. This is the first time in the last 75 years of independent India that a governor has leveled such allegations against his government.

“Malik has also leveled allegations against the central leadership. He has given a statement that when he told the central leadership about the corruption, they removed him from the post of governor,” he said. However, the BJP has denied any such allegation.

On the issue of unemployment, AAP had earlier promised that if they form the next government in the coastal state, they will provide jobs to at least one member of each family.
