The allegations of corruption against Eshwarappa gained momentum after a contractor Santosh Patil was found dead at a lodge. Prima facie, it appears that Patil killed himself. Before his death, Patil had reportedly sent a WhatsApp message to his friends stating his intention to take his own life and blamed Eshwarappa for the extreme step. Police is verifying the veracity of the suicide note through forensics.

“Eshwarappa is responsible for my death. He is to be punished. I have suppressed all my desires and [am] I’m doing this I request PM, CM and Yediyurappa to take care of my family,” Patil purportedly wrote in a WhatsApp message.

A few weeks ago, Patil wrote a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that Eshwarappa had not paid his outstanding bills. He accused the BJP leader of lies, corruption and irregularities and urged PM Modi to instruct Eshwarappa to settle his bills.

The Karnataka Congress on Wednesday submitted a letter to Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, demanding the state government to sack minister Eshwarappa. They also demanded his arrest in connection with the alleged suicide of contractor Santosh Patil.

The letter said, “The main reason for his extreme step of committing suicide appears to be that he did 108 government contract works worth more than Rs 4 crore on or before February 12, 2021 in Belagavi district on the verbal instructions of KS Eshwarappa. were. Minister of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj of Karnataka,
That too without work orders from the authorities concerned.

The letter said that whenever Santosh approached the minister and the officials concerned for payment and work orders, they insisted on commission, saying that the commission was to be paid first. Only after that the work order and payment will be done.
