Wildlife visualization of main forest areas to be shown to tourists: Karnataka Minister | Mangaluru News – Times of India

Udupi: Forest department plans to install high-definition 360° cameras inside entire forest areas Karnataka, capturing wildlife scenes live, and showing them to tourists at audio-visual centers outside the forest, thus promoting eco-tourism.
Soon, locations will be identified, and cameras will be installed in forests where tourism activities are not allowed, said Karnataka Forest Minister Arvind Limbawali.
He was talking to the media after holding an official review meeting Udupi and visit kandla in the forest (mangrove forest) kundapuri on Saturday.
“We are allowed to start eco-tourism projects in forest areas. However, there are many restrictions when it comes to the development of tourism in forests. We have developed tourism projects in Bandipur By strictly following the rules. However, it is not possible to carry out tourism projects in core forest areas. Therefore, we have directed the officials to use technology and develop eco-tourism in such areas. Cameras will be installed to shoot videos of wildlife and footage will be shown to the enthusiasts at various centres. Work has already started in Biligiri Ranganathaswamy Temple Tiger Reserve. Such projects can also be implemented in the forest areas of the coastal districts. This will attract more tourists,” the minister said.
The minister said that the mangrove forests protect the coast from cyclones and tsunamis. “I have come to see how mangrove forests are grown here. The coast of Kundapur is also a breeding ground for lady fish (ken). We need to promote eco-tourism here, and the revenue from this should be used to develop more mangrove forests in the backwaters. We are also planning to grow mangrove forests at identified locations along the Karnataka coast.
Green cover in Karnataka has increased from 13% to 23%, the minister said in reply to a question. “I have set a target to increase the green cover of the state from 23% to 33%. However, this is not possible in a day or a year. The Forest Department is working towards achieving this goal and the cooperation of the people is equally important.
