CWI chief selector, Roger Harper said after the team announcement that, “There are many talented newcomers to each format who will get the opportunity to show what they are capable of at the international level. Justin Greaves is a very talented player, had a good CG Insurance Super50 tournament and did well in the 2020 President’s XI match against Ireland. Odion Smith caught our attention in the last CPL (Caribbean Premier League). His pace was never in question though he has added more control and displayed wicket-taking ability.

“Shamrah Brooks batted well in the CG Insurance Super50 Cup and then did well in the CPL. He will give more depth to the batting order. Gudakesh Moti has been rewarded for his outstanding performance in the CG Insurance Super50, followed by his performance in the CPL. Dominic Drakes has the potential to be an excellent all-rounder as he demonstrated during the last CPL,” said Harper.

ODIs in Pakistan are part of the ICC ODI Super League where the points obtained will work towards qualification for the ICC World Cup 2023.

The ODI series will be West Indies’ fourth of 12 in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League in which the top seven teams automatically qualify for the Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. West Indies are currently ranked eighth out of 13 teams and have an opportunity to move up to seventh place above Pakistan.
