Who is Sandeep Warrier, Team India’s latest fast bowler recruit

In the last few months, Team India has been handing over a lot of debuts to its players. A young and inexperienced team was selected for the tour of Sri Lanka as some of the main players are in England for the Test series. Also, Krunal Pandya getting Kovid-19 meant that eight players from India were isolated from that tea.

For the third T20I on Thursday, net bowler Sandeep Warrier was picked, thus becoming India’s newest player. The latter got his cap from the bowling coach Paras Mhambrey. The incident was so horrific that the 30-year-old could not hold back his tears.

Meanwhile, Warrier was also the reserve bowler for the Indian team during the home series against England earlier this year. Varrier, who plays his game for Kerala in the domestic circuit, is a seasoned bowler and was the leading wicket-taker in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018-19 with 12 wickets in six matches.

In the 2019 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the Kerala bowler took a hat-trick against Andhra, dismissing KV Shashikant, Karn Sharma and SK Ismail in the final over. Not only that, when Kerala reached their first semi-final in the Ranji Trophy, Warrior played a vital role and took 39 wickets at an average of just 18.33.

As far as his domestic record is concerned, he has 186 wickets to his name in 57 first-class matches. And in 55 List A matches he has managed to take 66 wickets. He can also touch speeds of up to 140 kmph. In the 2019 IPL auction, he was acquired by KKR as a replacement for the injured Kamlesh Nagarkoti.

Earlier this year, Warrier and his KKR and now India teammate Varun Chakraborty tested positive for Covid-19 and the IPL season was eventually suspended.
