Who is Adil Farooq? Suspected Jaish-e-Mohammed associate and journalist arrested with grenade in Srinagar

Srinagar: Security forces on Tuesday arrested a journalist, identified as Adil Farooq, from Srinagar’s Lal Chowk area and recovered two grenades from him, police said.

Farooq, a resident of Khru Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, works with a local news agency.

According to reports, the 26-year-old arrested journalist was working for Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

Two hand grenades were recovered from the bag of the arrested Farooq near Mecca Market in Lal Chowk, a police official said.

The investigation is on with the police expecting more arrests.

Earlier, the interrogation of Farooq, who was arrested in 2019 also, is currently going on.

The arrest came minutes after 10 civilians were injured after terrorists hurled a grenade at Hari Singh High Street Market in Amira Kadal, Srinagar.

As per earlier inputs, the terrorists hurled a grenade at the security forces. The terrorists missed the target and the grenade fell on the roadside where the explosion took place, injuring at least ten civilians.

So far no terrorist organization has claimed responsibility for the incident.

Security forces have cordoned off the area to nab the attackers.
