However, Vice-Chancellor Jagannathan assured an inquiry into the matter. The caste-related question – “Which lower caste does Tamil Nadu belong to” with four caste options – was asked in History from first year (2nd semester) students, who were taking their exams in the subject. Speaking on the issue, the Vice Chancellor said that another university had framed the question and they did not get any information regarding the paper. “The question papers for the exam are not prepared by Periyar University. Other university and college lecturers prepare the question paper.
Generally, to avoid question paper leak, we do not read the question paper before the exam. I could not find any information about the controversial question. We will investigate it,” the VC said.
“We are today seeking a report from the controller of examination who had set the question paper. We are not contemplating to conduct the exam again,” he said.
