‘Whether a big or small player, a mistake is a mistake’: Former India all-rounder on Rishabh Pant’s batting approach

Former India all-rounder Ritinder Singh Sodhi questioned the batting approach of wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant. After losing his wicket playing a quick shot in the second innings of the Johannesburg Test, Pant has been facing a lot of criticism from fans and former cricketers for his shot selection.

The southpaw first got a snorer from Rabada who hit his helmet visor when he tried to defend awkwardly, and then charged for converting a short ball into a half-volley. The result was an edge for the keeper.

In the last 13 Test innings, Pant has managed to score just one half-century, while he was dismissed for one point six times, including a duck in Johannesburg.

Sodhi said that the wicket-keeper batsman is making mistakes time and again.

He said, ‘There was a time when you played a bad shot and your team had to bear the brunt of it, you were thrown out of the next match as a lesson. It’s not like that anymore, he’s your superstar.

“But whether a player big or small makes a mistake, a mistake is a mistake. Talking to India News, Sodhi said, “Pant must have been talked to a lot and it will not be a big deal even if he is thrown out as a lesson because these mistakes are being made again and again.”

Meanwhile, former India cricket Saba Karim backed Pant to play the final Test match in Cape Town. He said that the southeast is a huge asset to the team and many big players were dismissed after playing shots in haste.

“She [Rishabh Pant] Must play. Has no big cricketer played such a shot before and got out because of it? It used to be in a different era 20-25 years ago.

“That’s how you learn. You have to talk to him and explain that player, so that’s a lot to learn from. He’s a huge asset to the team. We forget very quickly, if this player doesn’t score runs.” Had we been there, would we have won the series in Australia?
