When Rahul Dravid called Irfan Pathan and MS Dhoni for a film after his 2007 World Cup exit

Former India batsman VVS Laxman believes that the appointment of Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the Indian team for the tour of Sri Lanka is an opportunity for him to make him a future champion.

“I don’t think there is any pressure (on Dravid). This is an opportunity for them to make the future champions of Indian cricket. It is not necessary that everyone gets a chance to play in this series. But just spending time with Rahul and sharing his experiences, which has already been done with a lot of players in the team, will make his future better,” Laxman said on Star Sports.

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan said that Dravid is easily understood by youngsters as he brings clarity to the table.

“What Rahul brings is clear communication. Even when he was the leader of the Indian cricket team… at that time he was very outspoken with any young player. If anyone has any kind of problem then they can approach him and talk openly.”

Pathan recalled an incident from the 2007 World Cup which spoke about Dravid’s positive thinking.

“I remember a very short incident in the 2007 World Cup in West Indies. He came to me and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He said, ‘Look, we are all upset. Let’s go to see the movie’.

“We went to see the movie and then they said, ‘Look, yeah, we lost the World Cup. We all wanted to make a big difference. But that’s not the end of it. Life is too big. We’ll be back tomorrow’. Has a kind character. He always wants to keep the cricketers in a positive mindset. So, if someone unfortunately gets out of form in Sri Lanka… if that happens, he will be the first person to guide him and give him confidence.” Pathan said.

India will begin their white-ball series in Sri Lanka with an ODI in Colombo on July 13.
