In an earlier interview, Neena talked about Masaba’s father, West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards’s presence in the life of the daughter. She reveals that she used to get upset when she told Masaba that Vivian is not a ‘family man’.

Neena Gupta had said, “I told him how his father was not a family man and how he was such and such. Initially, he felt bad that Vivian was not in touch with him till he was about 20 years old, but then he contacted. His problem is also that he is not net savvy and hence, it is very difficult to contact him.”

He continued, “Sometimes, he used to call her on her birthday and sometimes, he didn’t even call her for three years. Sometimes, she would come and meet here and sometimes not. Till then, I would have known her. Was and how he was. If I told him I needed something, he would be mad to bring it for me, but on his own he would bring nothing. He is a person who cannot express his feelings.”

While Neena and Vivian lived separately, the veteran actress always admired her, even when Vivian and Neena went five years without talking to each other. She had shared, “I was watching a match he was playing in Jaipur. They lost the match by one run and as a captain, I almost saw him cry and I liked that about him. He Very nice guy, down-to-earth, disciplined, but that’s all you can expect from him. I guess God gave me my father instead of him.”

Neena recently released her memoir Sach Kahu Toh. The autobiography is an honest story about Nina’s life, narrating her professional highs and personal lows. In the book, she talks about her relationships and how she gave birth to Masaba. In the book, she talks about giving birth to Masaba and raising her as a single mother when she had no money or work.
