Story

King Drupada and Brahmin Drona were both friends. Drupad had insulted his friend Drona. Later Drona became the guru of Kauravas and Pandavas. To avenge his humiliation from King Drupada, Drona made the Kaurava-Pandavas attack Drupada and took him captive. Drona had divided the kingdom of Drupada in half.

Drupada was deeply saddened by this humiliation. They were wandering from ashram to ashram looking for a Brahmin who would perform a yajna, as a result of which they would get a son who could take revenge on Drona. Drupada was watching his plan even behind the birth of a child. He was not getting any such Brahmin.

One day Drupada saw two brahmins named Yaj and Upayaz doing penance. Drupada alone said to Upayaja, ‘I want a son who can kill Dronacharya. You perform a yajna and give me such a son.’

Upayaz said, ‘I cannot do this work, but my elder brother Yaz can do this work. I know his attitude. They do not think of purity and impurity in taking anything. You want to give me a lot of property, but I don’t feel like taking it all. You can talk to my elder brother.’

When Drupada heard this, he thought that his elder brother might be ready to do this work by taking some property. After thinking this, Drupad did not have a good image of Yaj in his mind, but then he thought that what should I do with Yaz’s attitude, just my work should be done. Drupad went to Yaz.

Yaj performed such a sacrifice. Dhrishtadyumna was born due to the effect of Yagya. Later, when the Mahabharata war took place, Dronacharya was killed by Dhrishtadyumna in that war.

Lessons

If the feeling of revenge remains constant, then we definitely take some wrong path. Drupada lured the Brahmin and the Brahmin priest also wanted to earn money, so he thought that even if some murder is taking place, our job is to perform the Yagya. So keep in mind, whenever we do any work, then definitely see how our intention is behind that work. If we have bad intentions like Drupada and Yaz then the results will not be in our favor. Whenever we do any work, see that no one is harmed because of us and our work also gets done.
