Raaj Kumar referred to Dharmendra as a bandar (monkey) and even laughed at the joke on the sets of the 1965 film Kajal.

Late Bollywood star Raaj Kumar had a mysterious aura around him which translated into a strong screen presence on celluloid. Having worked as a sub-inspector under the Bombay Police before acting in films, the Pakeezah actor carried his no-nonsense cop attitude along with his new profession. He was widely known to be cocky and did not mince his words when it came to cheating anyone. The more Raj Kumar respected, the more he was apprehensive because of his nature. However, there was a time when he met a match in the industry who refused to take the lewd comments he made.

That person was none other than veteran actor Dharmendra. This happened during the filming of the 1965 film Kajal in which the two were featured. Dharmendra was known for his strong and muscular body and reportedly Raaj Kumar made a comment on it. According to reports, Rajkumar asked director Ram Maheshwari whether he needed wrestlers or actors for the film. This naturally enraged Dharmendra but he remained silent.

However, later Raaj Kumar in his outspoken style called Dharmendra a bandar (monkey) and laughed at the joke. However, this time Dharmendra lost his temper and even grabbed Raaj Kumar by the collar. Things could have escalated had other members of the cast and crew not intervened and stopped the two.

Raaj Kumar reportedly walked out of the sets and refused to shoot further. Only after much persuasion both the actors agreed to shoot together and the film was completed.

Kajal also starred in Meena Kumari, Padmini, Mumtaz and Helen and proved successful at the box office. The two actors reportedly got into a heated argument for the second time at a private party when Raaj Kumar made some objectionable remarks on a young Sunny Deol in the presence of Dharmendra.

Raj Kumar died of throat cancer in 1996 at the age of 69. His son Puru Rajkumar also appeared in a few films.
