WhatsApp Groups is a useful tool for many users, but having hundreds of members in a group brings its own set of problems.

WhatsApp introduced groups a number of years ago, and it’s fair to say that groups can be helpful and annoying at the same time. WhatsApp now lets you add more than 256 members to a group with their consent. But that means you’re bombarded with hundreds of group notifications, which can be a sad sight on your phone’s lockscreen.

So, people mute groups to avoid such incidents, but WhatsApp is now rolling out a feature that will automatically mute groups with more than 256 members. The messaging app is now capable of holding up to 1024 members in a single group, and the Meta-owned platform clearly understands the importance of user privacy.

The automatic mute feature is currently available in beta version for WhatsApp users, and once the testing is complete and no bugs are reported, WhatsApp is expected to release the feature publicly for all users. This is one of the many features that WhatsApp is testing behind the scenes with its beta users.

WhatsApp opens the beta tester window from time to time, and people can always keep an eye on it while it’s open.

But group muting isn’t the only feature WhatsApp has been touting lately. WhatsApp version 22.23.0.73 on iOS is gaining the ability to edit messages before you send them. This feature works when the user long presses a message. If you send a message after editing it, WhatsApp will add the edited label to alert the recipient of the message.

The report mentions that WhatsApp will put a limit of 15 minutes within which the user can edit the sent message. But there is a possibility that WhatsApp is not going to limit the edit feature to messages only. The tipster suggests that in future WhatsApp may let users edit the photo caption/text as well. Editing is in popular demand.
