Meta-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp on Thursday said it will add more features including the ability to connect with up to 32 people in group voice calls and share files up to 2GB. Currently, only eight people can be added to a group voice call using the mobile app, and the size of each file exchanged between users should not exceed 1 GB.
WhatsApp The chat will allow the group’s administrator to delete the messages at any time. A company spokesperson explained that the deleted conversation would not be visible to any members of the group. “We have built WhatsApp communities to make it very easy to organize all your group chats and find information. You will be able to bring different groups into one community – for example, in addition to separate groups for different classes, you can have a holistic community for parents at a school with announcements central location and tools for administrators.”
“We’re also adding new features to groups on WhatsApp, including Reactions, larger file sharing, and larger group calls,” Mark ZuckerbergCEO of meta Platforms that owns WhatsApp said in a post. A WhatsApp blog post states that while other apps are building out chats for hundreds of thousands of users, it is focusing on supporting groups that are part of daily life.
“We will introduce one-tap voice calling for up to 32 people,” the blog post said. Groups representing a set of communities such as schools, residential societies, friends can be organized in different places.
“Communities will also have powerful new tools for administrators, including the announcement messages that are sent to everyone, and control over which groups can be included. We feel that communities are the most important tool for a school principal. Will make it easier to bring all school parents together so they can share updates and set up groups about specific classes, extracurricular activities or volunteer needs.”
