WhatsApp may verify your documents to use Payments – Times of India

Facebook-owned messaging platform WhatsApp May soon ask you to verify your identity in order to use the payment facility. on whatsapp Launched in India in 2018 as a part of Trail Run and after receiving approval from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the service was officially launched to the public last year. Now according to a report by XDA-Developers, strings in the latest WhatsApp beta indicate that the platform will need to share its verification documents in order to use the payment feature.
As of now, to use WhatsApp Pay service in India, you need to verify the phone number associated with your bank account for UPI transactions. Currently, the platform does not ask users for any verification documents for any service. According to a report, WhatsApp v2.21.22.6 beta has new strings that suggest the changes mentioned above.
The company has not yet made any official announcement about this change. Many other popular UPI-based apps like google payDo not ask for verification documents from PhonePe and other users. Reports suggest that WhatsApp’s move may be limited to business account users only.
The company is constantly working to improve the ecommerce experience on the platform. Recently, it has introduced a new feature called ‘Collections’. This feature allows you to buy items from the messaging platform using categories. In simple words, this feature allows business account holders to organize the products in their catalog by category so that users can easily find the desired item without having to scroll through the long list of items.
If you have a WhatsApp Business account, you can create a collection by following these steps. Tap on the three dots in the top right corner of the app > Tap on Business Tools > Select Catalog > Tap on Add New Collection. In addition, the company released the ‘Carts’ feature which makes it easier for customers to buy multiple items.
