WhatsApp adding this new functionality to the disappearing messaging feature – Times of India

WhatsApp Giving users more control for missing messages Speciality. Facebook-owned WhatsApp says users will now have the option to turn on disappearing messages automatically for their all-new one-on-one chat. Once set up, all future messages in these WhatsApp chats will be automatically deleted. “WhatsApp users will now have the option to turn on disappearing messages by default for all new chats. When enabled, all new chats that you or someone else starts will disappear within your chosen period of time, And we added a new option when creating a group chat that lets you turn it on for the groups you create.” For those unaware, WhatsApp introduced the disappearing messages feature in November last year, offering users a period of 7 days.
The company is now adding two new periods for disappearing messages: 24 hours and 90 days. The current option remains 7 days. Users who choose to switch on the disappearing messages feature by default will have a message displayed in their chats telling people that this is the default that they have chosen. If these users want a particular conversation to be permanent, they can remove the disappearing chat option of that particular chat. While the new default setting does not affect group chats, WhatsApp says it has added a new option when creating groups so that users can enable the disappearing messages feature.
Vanishing messages feature: what not to miss
WhatsApp has clarified that this feature is optional and does not change or delete any of your existing chats. The disappearing of messages setting will also not affect messages that users have previously sent or received in chat. In an individual chat, users can either toggle disappearing messages on or off. In a group chat, any group participant can turn disappearing messages on or off. However, a group administrator can change group settings so that only administrators can turn missing messages on or off.
