What! Vicky Kaushal Got Arrested While Filming ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur’; Know Why

‘Gangs Of Wasseypur’ is one of the most iconic film of the Indian Film Industry. The film is remembered for its originality, dialogues and the performances of the actors present in the film. The monumental gangster drama was divided into two parts in 2012, establishing Anurag as one of the country’s leading directors. It also introduced audiences to several actors who would later rise to huge stardom.

Beyond marking the debut of promising actors, the film also featured a future star in a behind-the-scenes role. Vicky Kaushal served as an assistant director on the film, and Anurag shared an anecdote about how Vicky found himself in jail during the movie’s production.

While celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the film on ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’, Piyush Mishra humorously remarked that he is surprised each time crew members working on Anurag’s films manage to escape arrest, host Kapil Sharma inquired about the context. Anurag explained in Hindi, “During Wasseypur, Vicky Kaushal went to jail once… We used to shoot without permission, and at one point, we were filming the real illegal sand mining that the mafia was involved in. Vicky ended up getting caught.”

However, Shlok Sharma, the director of Haraamkhor, outdid Vicky’s experience by landing in jail twice. Serving as the second unit director on Gangs of Wasseypur, Anurag disclosed in a 2017 interview with PTI, “In Wasseypur, he went to jail twice. He wanted to shoot such shots of tracks that he placed cameras on the bridge. He then went to jail for that, and if they had a camera there, he would have shot there as well.”

Vicky Kaushal, who initially worked as an assistant director on Gangs of Wasseypur, made his lead acting debut in ‘Masaan’, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan. He also appeared in Anurag’s films ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’ and ‘Manmarziyaan.’ Vicky is set to make a cameo appearance in Anurag’s latest movie, ‘Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat.’
