West Indies vs England, 1st Test, Day 2 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua: Highlights

West Indies vs England, 1st Test, Day 2 in Antigua Highlights: England’s hopes will rest on Jonny Bairstow, who led the innings with a scintillating century on Tuesday. West Indies’ attack had demolished England’s top order and it looked like the visiting team would be bowled out before the stumps. But Bairstow showed some resilience and helped the visitors win an embarrassing 268-6 48-4 against the West Indies.

Opener Lees, on debut, and Zack Crawley went inside four overs, Root was bowled at 27-3, and Dan Lawrence went at 48-4.

Bairstow and Ben Stokes joined hands in damage repair and recovery began after taking the score to 57-4 at lunch. He made 67 runs to take England beyond 100. Bairstow and Ben Fox scored 99 together to take England past 200, then completed their eighth Test century in the company of Bairstow all-rounder Chris Woakes.

They both saw the stumps play including six overs of the new ball to complete a remarkable turnaround.

Bairstow moved relatively quickly to his ton, which he carried captain Craig Brathwaite from backward square to the fence. Following his score in the fourth Ashes Test in Sydney, he happily punched him in the air after his second century in two Tests.

Bairstow scored an unbeaten 109 off 216 balls with the help of 17 fours. He has a 54 partnership with Woakes, who was at 24, almost his Test average.

Fast bowler Jason Holder was the choice of the West Indies battery. Holder took two wickets for 15 runs in 16 overs. He didn’t leak a single run in his first five overs and bowled nine maidens.

Jayden Seals took the wickets of Stokes and Crowley for 64 runs in 19 overs.

Kemar Roach took the big wicket of Root and Alex Lees took the first wicket.
