West Indies include fit Kemar Roach in their squad for the first Test against Bangladesh

Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Thursday included pacer Kemar Roach in their squad for the first Test against Bangladesh at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

The 33-year-old passed the fitness test and was included in the team as the 13th player before the start of the Test series. CWI has confirmed that Roach has made a full recovery from an injury sustained while playing for Surrey in the English County Championship.

Roach is the highest-ranked West Indies bowler in the ICC rankings and is West Indies’ leading wicket-taker in Test matches. He brings a wealth of knowledge and skill to the bowling attack, with an impressive record of 242 for 27 in 72 Tests and is also the leading wicket-taker with 43 wickets at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Wednesday in CWI assists. Roach’s career-best figures of 6-48 came against Bangladesh in 2009, while his best figures at the venue are 5-8 which also came against Bangladesh in 2018.

“It is wonderful that he (Roach) is fit for a Test match. He is always an inspiration to the young players we have here and he is ready to go. With around 250 wickets, we are happy with what he brings to the table not only on the field but also in the dressing room. I am glad he is fit and look forward to seeing him get out there and do what he is doing so well,” West Indies head coach Phil Simmons was quoted as saying in the release.

Meanwhile, on the eve of the first Test match, Bangladesh included top-order batsman Anamu Haque Bijoy in place of Yasir Ali Chowdhury, who was ruled out of the series due to a back injury, local media reported.

Anamul, who last played a Test for Bangladesh in 2014, will be available for the second Test starting June 24 in St Lucia.
