Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee A cabinet decision on Monday announced that the state government is launching an internship scheme and will take 6,000 interns from now on who have completed their graduation.
The CM said that the 2022 West Bengal Student Internship Scheme will be for a period of one year. During that time interns will be posted in government offices in districts, sub-divisions or blocks. “They will be posted close to their place of residence and will be paid Rs 5,000 per month. After successful completion of their internship, it will be reviewed,” the CM said. He said that people below 40 years of age would be able to apply for this internship.
He also said that the students who have completed their course in Polytechnic or ITI or equivalent course will be able to apply for internship provided all of them have secured 60% marks. Interns will be given scope to interface with various programs and projects of the state so that they can learn to do social work. They will get one year internship and they will be reviewed. Those who perform well can continue.
Interested candidates can apply online and then it will be scrutinized by a selection board headed by Chief Secretary HK Dwivedi. Thus, every year 6,000 interns will work in government schemes and learn how government works and they will also be used in people’s catering services. If there are more qualified candidates, they can also be selected by stages and the Chief Secretary will have to decide the selection process. The CM also asked the officials to coordinate with the education department.
He said that the selected candidates would be deputed in state government offices and even in government undertakings. CM said that on successful completion they will get certificate and ranking and grading which will be beneficial for their studies and getting job.
