Kolkata: The West Bengal government on Thursday announced suspension of internet services in seven districts for eight days to avoid illegal activities in the areas.
Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Home and Hill Affairs, WB said in a statement, “The government has received intelligence reports that internet broadcasting and voice over internet telephony may be illegal activities in certain areas and hence the ban is being imposed. Internet access.”
Restrictions will be imposed in some blocks of the district Malda, Murshidabad, Uttar DinajpurCoochbehar, JalpaiguriBirbhum and Darjeeling from March 7 to 9, March 11 and 12 and March 15 and 16 from 11:00 am to 3:15 pm,” the statement added.
No restrictions are being imposed on voice calls, SMS and newspapers.
