West Bengal CM to launch ‘Khela Hobe’ program at Netaji Indoor Stadium

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will launch the ‘Khela Hobe’ program at the Netaji Indoor Stadium on Monday. The slogan was the key to the Trinamool Congress’ campaign during the state assembly elections and will now be the government’s flagship scheme for the youth.

Under this scheme, the state sports and youth affairs department will hand over one lakh footballs to various sports clubs alone, with 10 footballs each registered with the IFA, the CM has said as per media reports.

During his election campaign, Banerjee promised to distribute footballs among clubs and school students and was often seen throwing footballs at the crowd as part of popularizing the ‘Khela Hobe’ campaign.

The state government had earlier announced, “It has been decided to encourage youth and students to play football and thereby develop sports activities in the state, to the registered clubs under the Khela Hobe program under the Joy (Striker) brand.” football will be given. Earlier, addressing her Martyrs’ Day rally virtually, Banerjee announced that August 16 would be celebrated as ‘Khel Diwas’, which would be marked by distribution of footballs to poor children. ‘Joy’ manufactured by Refugee Handicrafts under the Department of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises and Textiles will be distributed to the football clubs. The department keeps on distributing various sports material including indoor games throughout the year.

“Till the time the BJP is not removed from the country, it will be played in all the states,” Banerjee told IANS. We will celebrate ‘Khel Diwas’ on 16th August. We will distribute football to poor children.”
