We’re happy to cross the line, says Eoin Morgan on Qualifier 2 win

Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan expressed happiness over his team’s progress in a nervous chase against Delhi Capitals in Sharjah on Wednesday. He also said that the team will overcome the slowdown with the bat in the last four overs. Despite losing six wickets for seven runs, Kolkata sealed their place in the final against Chennai Super Kings in the final with Delhi Capitals three wickets and one ball to spare.

“We should have been very easy after the start, Venky (Iyer) and Gill gave us the platform. The dew has come and all, but we are in the final and we are happy to have crossed the line,” Morgan said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

“I would have liked to have won but the Capitals are a very good team. Six out of two, probably was in favor of the bowling side, but Rahul Tripathi has done a great job for us. It’s a nice insight into our team culture – young people feel free to express themselves,” Morgan said.

Morgan acknowledged the role of backdoor employees in giving youngsters confidence on the side. “The backroom staff has created an environment for them to do this. We have hope from the team we have. Hopefully we will be able to implement the strategy we have made.”

Regarding the rise of Venkatesh Iyer, who has been an important cog in the wheel in the UAE, Morgan said, “It came from the coach. My god, he’s a great player. Chasing made easy, looks like he was batting on a different wicket. We look forward to playing against one of the best franchises in IPL history, CSK. Anything can happen in the final.”

Kolkata will now visit the Dubai International Stadium on Friday to take on Chennai Super Kings in the final on Friday. This will be the first time since 2012 that both the teams will play against each other in the final.
